25 years ago a group of local citizens had an idea of starting a Crab Festival. What a better way to end the summer and celebrate the delicious landings of the local crab fishermen at the same time. Little did they know then, that this little idea would grow into a Maritime renowned festival with people making it a point of returning year after year. Since its humble beginnings in the summer of 1993, the Crab Fest has improved and grown stronger each year. It now boasts a visitor rate of approximately 5,000 for the 2-day event.
The Louisbourg Crab Fest Committee, in conjunction with the local Volunteer Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary, sponsors the festival, along with numerous volunteers who help contribute toward its success each year. In addition to the seafood fare, canteen services will also be available on the site. Unique Crab Fest merchandise will be sold, along with other special items, making great souvenirs of this annual event.
